Is womanSong the right chorus for me?
Yes, if you are a woman who:
loves singing a variety of repertoire (classical, world music, folk, and more)
has some sight-reading ability
can commit to our rehearsal/ performance schedule
What can you tell me about the audition process?
During the musical audition, the Director will ask you to:
sing scales and warm-ups (to determine tone quality and range)
repeat simple melodic patterns (to ascertain tonal memory/pitch recognition)
sight-read an excerpt (to determine your level of reading skill)
What responsibilities will I have as a member of womanSong?
First and foremost, at the core of womanSong’s mission we strive for a high quality of musical excellence. Therefore, the ability to learn your music in a timely manner is of the utmost importance.
womanSong’s concert season usually consists of two major concerts, and several smaller concerts throughout the community.
Singers are expected to attend weekly rehearsals, which are held on Tuesdays from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston.
An additional dress rehearsal is held during the week prior to each major concert. Attendance is mandatory.
If needed, extra rehearsals will be scheduled at the Director's discretion. One retreat is scheduled per concert preparation period, as well as several sectionals.
Annual dues are $300 payable at the beginning of the season, or in three installments. Concert attire, which consists of black palazzo pants and a colored pashmina shawl, must be purchased by singers.
